Easy Access – Phase 2
The work on Phase 2 began on 18th Jan 2006 and this slideshow show the work progressing both inside and outside the Church and inside the Church Hall
Christening – 5th March 2006
During the Morning Service on March 5th the Christening of Charles Hamilton took place and the photos below show the presentation of the Candle and the Baptism itself.
Palm Sunday Procession – April 9th 2006
After assembling in the Church Hall the Choir led the congregation into the Church for the annual Palm Sunday service which included an enactment of the Passion story.
Easter Sunday 2006
The Holy Eucharist on Easter Day was combined with a Baptism. During the service members of the congregation helped to fill the Easter Cross with flowers.
Sidesperson’s Supper May 2006
The photo below was taken after the annual siderperson’s supper held on May 23rd. Those sidesmen and sideswomen present are shown with the vicar – after a hearty supper!
Men’s Society Bowls Match – June 2006
On a glorious June evening the annual Men’s Society Bowls match took place at the Navigation ‘arena’.
Thirteen competitors took part in a keenly fought contest.
The two finalists, shown here during the final, were Alan Thompson and Bernard Kelly
The eventual winner, last year’s runner up, was Alan seen here receiving his trophy.
Also at the bottom is shown a guest competitor, all the way from Adelaide, Australia – John Clisset’s relation, Geoff.
Dedication of new Flag
On Sunday 25th June 2006 a new Union Flag was presented to St Paul’s in Memory of William Edward Gillespie known to many as Ernie. The flag was dedicated at the Morning Service and the Gillespie family are seen here with Michael Riley after the service.
Licensing of Karen and Yvonne
A party from St Paul’s went to Chester Cathederal on June 30th to witness the licensing of Karen and Yvonne as Pastoral Workers. The photos show the assembled party in the Cathederal and Thomas with Karen and Yvonne.
On Sunday July 2nd Karen and Yvonne repeated their vows at the morning Eucharist service and this was followed by a Celebration Brunch. The photos show the event in church and the brunch table prepared in the hall
Heritage Open Day Saturday 9th September
As part of the national Heritage Open Day events the Church was open on 9th September. The Parish Registers were available for viewing, there was a display of historical artifacts and old photographs and there were regular trips up the tower. The photo shows one of the displays and an illuminated book commemorating the opening of the Tower
As part of the Open Day Jeff Cook and Harry Thomas took part in a sponsored bike ride to churches in the Bowdon Deanery. The photo shows Jeff and Harry setting off from Church watched by Michael Riley, our Heritage Open Day organiser.
Visit to Gorton Monastery
On September 28th a party of 20 Men’s Society members and friends visited the Monastery of St Francis in Gorton.
They were given a most enthralling talk on the history of the buildings and a tour into the Monastery as work continues restoring it for use again with a planned opening date of May 4th 2007.
It will certainly be well worth a visit again when the next phase of restoration is complete. For more photos taken during the visit see the slideshow below.
Parish Picnic and Harvest Weekend
Following the morning service on Sept 17th many parishioners went to Tatton Park for the Parish Picnic. Some of the early arrivals can be seen in the photo which also shows that the weather was kind.
The Weekend of October 7th and 8th saw the Harvest celebrations.
The weekend started with a supper and entertainment in the Hall on Saturday night.
The Sunday morning service was a joint event with the Avenue Methodist Church and the choir was augmented by the Springfield School Choir. A large congregation was present as can be seen in the photo above.
Remembrance Sunday – Nov 12th
St Paul’s were once again involved in the Annual Service of Remembrance outside Sale Town Hall.
The choir processed to the Town Hall after the Eucharist in Church and the Vicar presided over the Remembrance Service in front of the Memorial.
The photo, below right, shows the Choir heading up Springfield Road.
AfriTwin Supper – Nov 22nd
St Paul’s hosted a supper together with St Anne’s church on Nov 22nd in aid of the AfriTwin project sponsored by Springfield Road School. The photo shows some af the attendees.
