On Wednesday the 1st August, 8 of us ladies belonging to St Pauls paid a visit to the Mustard Tree in Ancoats. We were having a guided tour of the newly refurbished premises belonging to this Charity which we all support.
Well, we were all suitably impressed, firstly be the wonderful Welcome we were given and then by the professional and sensitive way the public were dealt with.
The premises themselves were second to none as the photographs will show you and the people who make good use of them can avail themselves to Food, Clothes, Furniture, Ornaments and enough to fit out a kitchen bedroom and indeed a home.
As well as material things the Staff try to stretch their horizons by engaging them in Music Lessons, Learning to play an instrument, recording studio, Art classes and the use of all materials free of charge.  There is a Cafe/Restaurant where we enjoyed a cup of coffee/tea and a biscuit, they have a theatre complete with stage and the room opens out on to the cafe/restaurant in order to enjoy performances.  They are helped to complete CV’s and apply for jobs etc.
All of the above is due to their Social Enterprise Scheme, they do received help from several large organisations as well as donations from people such as ourselves as part of our Community Giving.
I’m really looking forward to going again soon.
Please remember that they desperately need donations of hygiene products as well as food etc.

Frank’s Birthday

After the Sunday morning service on July 29th a special cake was cut by Frank Tolley to celebrate his 97th birthday. His actual birthday had been the week before and he had spent it with all the Tolley family on the occasion of his youngest great grandchild’s christening.

Music for a Sunday Afternoon

Our Sunday afternoon concerts for 2018 began on 8th July on a glorious day when 82 had afternoon tea in the Church grounds following the concert by the Irlam Male Voice Choir.

Men’s Society Bowls Match

In the middle of a heatwave, 25 members and friends met at the Linden Club in Sale for the annual bowls night on June 28th. The rock-hard green challenged all but the good players and the final was contested by Brian Kerridge and John Barlow. The winner was Brian who re-claimed the cup he last won in 2014. The splendid refreshments were provided by the Shakeshaft family but with so many ends to fit in these were not started until 9:45pm. The final was then played after this in the dying light.

Whitsunday at St Paul’s

During the service the 60th anniversary (to the day) of the formation of St Paul’s Men’s Society was celebrated. The photos below were taken on the day.

The Chairman and John, one of the founding members, cut the cakes in the hall after the service.

 

Prayer Walk

Last Friday (18th May) a large number of walkers of all ages joined Bishop Libby and Archdeacon Ian for the last leg of their ‘Thy Kingdom Come’ prayer walks, in Bowdon Deanery.  The 7.5 mile route took us from Warburton, via Partington, Carrington and Ashton-on-Mersey.  Representatives from many of our churches across the deanery, joined us and each and every church was prayed for on route.  This was a very ecumenical event too with colleagues from the local Methodist, Baptist, Catholic and Ivy Church Plant walking and praying with us.  On route we visited a wide variety of places including, schools, care homes, churches of several denominations, urban estates, a Christian play centre and busy roads – praying for individuals, families, children, workers and visitors in many walks of life.
