It was a busier Sunday than usual- from hosting the Falklands 40th Anniversary memorial service with local cadets and veterans to lending a hand with the Churches Together children’s crafts stall at the Lions Father’s Day Fair at Worthington Park and concluding the day with 6pm evening prayer.

The morning service was attended by the Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham, the Mayor of Trafford, Chris Boyes and the Archdeacon of Macclesfield, Ian Bishop.

Our Jubilee celebrations began with a Pentecost Confirmation service on Sunday afternoon taken by the Bishop of Stockport with the Mayor of Trafford, Councillor Chris Boyes, and the Mayoress in attendance. Following the service and due to the uncertain weather a Platinum Jubilee party was held in the Church Hall. Music was provided by a choir from Springfield Road school and the Sale Salvation Army Band. The latter led everyone in singing some of the Queen’s favourite hymns.

The event was held as part of the annual Churches Together in Sale celebration for Pentecost.

A packed hall enjoyed a fabulous spread of food and beverages including the special Jubilee trifle.

The Bishop presented the members of the choir with Jubilee teddy bears to mark the occasion.

A prayer on St. George’s Day

Heavenly Father, give us the bravery of St George to stand up for what we believe. Give us the strength to overcome the dragons in our lives and in the world. And where we see people in distress, give us the compassion to help them. Amen

The stained glass window shown here, depicting St. George and the dragon was given by Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Bird of Elmwood, Brooklands Road, Sale in Memory of the Members of the St. Paul’s Company of the Church Lads Brigade who Fell in the Great War.
