Purple for Polio update
St Paul’s was illuminated on Oct 24th for World Polio Day joining other prominent buildings in Purple for Polio. The photo below shows the effect.
Harvest Festival
On Sunday morning Oct 19th, St Paul’s held the annual Harvest Festival service. We were joined by the choir from Springfield Road school and the Brownies. Harvest gifts had been collected before and during the service and these will be distributed to various charities. After the service there was a Bring and Share lunch in the Church hall. Songs of Praise
This event was held in Church on Oct 6th and was a great success. St Paul’s choir was joined by the choir from St Joseph’s.
It was great to join with the musicians from St Joseph’s to lead a full church in some of our favourite hymns. Several people gave thoughtful introductions to why a particular hymn was important to them including the Mayor of Trafford.
The Mayor was in attendance and the photos below was taken after the service.
Special Birthday
After the Morning service on Oct 6th Anne was presented with a cake to mark her special birthday as the photo below shows.
Bishop’s Chorister Award
Rosie was formally awarded her Bishop’s Chorister Award at Chester Cathedral last Saturday (Sept 28th) at the Royal Schools of Church Music Festival.
Purple for Polio
The Men’s Society hosted an illustrated talk by Karen Wroe from Sale Rotary Club on the Rotary International project to eradicate Polio the world over. St Paul’s will be illuminated on Oct 24th for World Polio Day joining other prominent buildings in Purple for Polio.
During the talk the Vicar was presented with a thousand purple crocus bulbs to be planted around the church. The significance of purple is that it is the dye used on children’s fingers to indicate that they have received the polio immunisation.

Pet Service
On Sunday 22nd September St Paul’s hosted a Pet Service and Pet Show in aid of the Mayor of Trafford’s Charities – The Alex Hulme Foundation, the Society for Abandoned Animals and the Manchester Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Charity.
The Hall was filled with dogs, hamsters, a snake, a tortoise and their owners.
The judges were the Mayor and special guest Eamonn O’Neal.
Another guest was Wayne Devlin who reported on the event in his column in the Sale Messenger weekly newspaper.

Heritage Day
On a glorious September Day St Paul’s opened its doors to the annual Heritage Day event.
On display following restoration and erection in Church are three World War One Memorials, one from the Sale Presbyterian Church, which stood on Northenden Road and two from Sale Congregational Church which have been in storage since 1979 and have not seen the light of day for over forty years.
Highlights of the day also included guided tours of the Church Tower, a rare collection of old aerial photographs of Sale, a display of vintage domestic bygones and a unique opportunity to view the Parish Registers.
Victorian Afternoon Teas were served in the Church Hall with Harpist Becki McIlroy and the Sale Handbell ringers providing entertainment. A Barbeque and performances from the Bollin Morris Men and Sale Scout and Guide Band Band were held on the lawns.
Professional Storyteller Helen Stewart and a traditional Punch and Judy Show entertained all the family, plus Sale’s most famous resident Professor James Prescott Joule – the Father of the International Unit of Energy – made his usual appearance.
